Research in a Connected World
An introduction to e-research and the technologies that enable it. Networked information and communications technologies open up opportunities for new kinds of research, often referred to as e-Research. Making sense of the potential uses of e-Research can be a challenging task.
This book aims to help researchers become acquainted with the technologies and new research methods involved and assess the implications their use might have for their own work. It presents examples of e-research and an introduction to the history and organisation of the underpinning technologies, as well as descriptions of tools and infrastructures that researchers might encounter.
Researchers will gain a conceptual understanding of e-Research enabling them to take the decision to investigate particular tools and to acquire necessary
skills through exploration and training.
